Through Morning Meetings a sense of community is created. Students have a sense of belonging with responsive interactions-sharing, listening, inclusion and participation, dialogue, social interest, friendliness. The students merge social, emotional and intellectual learning.
A variety of methods are used in my classroom to encourage classroom discussions, including journaling to a set of questions before sharing.
Expectations are communicated on the first day, I use a Script to ensure that nothing is missed.

- Always consider the effect of cultural and sex differences on communication
- Use various types of questions that will stimulate discussion in different ways

Classroom rules and consequences are discussed on the first day and a discipline plan handout is sent home and signed by student and parents.

- Work Quietly: Do not disturb others who are working.
- Listen the first time directions are given
- Raise your hand, and wait to be called on before speaking.
- Respect your classmates. Treat them with kindness in your words and actions.
- Keep your hands, feet, and any objects to yourself.
Consequences are clearly posted around the room:
- 1st offense: verbal warning
- 2nd offense: move student
- 3rd offense: 10 minutes in from recess
- 4th offense: 20 minutes in from recess and a phone call home
- 5th offense: referral to office and a phone call home
